Security vulnerabilities in Fire TV

Supported

This model is still receiving firmware/platform updates.

What that actually means for your TV →

Amazon's Software Security Updates page lists the Amazon Ember Mini-LED Series and Fire TV Omni Mini-LED Series 55, 65, 75 and 85-inch with security updates until at least 31 December 2030, or at least four years from purchase if bought new from Amazon, whichever is later. Amazon says this isn't a guarantee of how long the device will last.

Automatic content recognition (ACR), including over HDMI

Has ACR

This model has Amazon's ACR feature (branded "Automatic Content Recognition"), which analyses on-screen content — including over HDMI — to identify what's playing.

What ACR is and how to turn it off →

Amazon's help page says that when ACR is enabled on a Fire TV smart TV, Amazon identifies what you watch through connected devices such as a cable box, and that it is managed at Settings → Preferences → Privacy Settings → Automatic Content Recognition. Amazon doesn't say whether it is on by default. Enabling it on one Fire TV device doesn't enable it on others.
