Nissan's FAQ says to check by adding the car as you would a new one. If you get errors, "the vehicle may still be paired with the previous owner's account": ask the previous owner to unlink it from their account, or contact the customer support centre through the app.

The answers are under "Vehicle selling / used car purchases" on Nissan's FAQ page; select each question to open it.

Prove you own itBuyer
Nissan Customer Service (or the MyNISSAN app)

Nissan's terms say that if the previous owner didn't unpair the car, you may need to provide proof of ownership, by calling Nissan Customer Service or registering the car in the MyNISSAN app. Once it's told of a sale, Nissan may remove the car from the seller's account so the new owner can register it. Any unexpired free period carries over.

Nissan doesn't say which document counts as proof. Its UK contact page gives Nissan Customer Services as 0330 123 1231.

Privacy and offline settings

Nissan says that if the agreement isn't accepted, the car stays in Privacy Mode and no data is collected, and that Privacy Mode stops storage of the car's location. Emergency calling still works.

You can also choose Decline at the start-up prompt. This path may apply only to newer head units.
