Vauxhall: previous owners, selling, and privacy settings
Last checked: 14 Oct 2026
Vauxhall's connected services: MyVauxhall app (MyVauxhall 2.0 rolling out), Vauxhall Connect ONE and Connect PLUS. Sellers use "Prepare Ownership change" in the app (or Change of Owner on the website) and restore factory settings. A new owner linking the car ends the old contracts.
Bought it used: remove the previous owner
- Link the car to your own accountBuyer, in the app
MyVauxhall appVauxhall's UK help centre says connected services are tied to a personal MyVauxhall account. The new owner is prompted to link the car to their phone and account, which ends all the previous owner's contracts. Any remaining trial months carry over when you activate.
Selling: unlink and wipe
- Prepare ownership changeIn the app
MyVauxhall app → Vehicle → Reinitialize - Prepare Ownership changeVauxhall's help centre says this removes the car from your account and ends all its subscriptions and notifications. You get a confirmation email.
The button is at the bottom of the Vehicle tab; check the VIN if you have more than one car. If no disclaimer appears, Vauxhall says to contact customer care. The article doesn't say whether MyVauxhall 2.0 is the same.
- Change of OwnerWebsite
Connected services website → MY GARAGE → Remove VehicleVauxhall's UK Connect ONE terms (which cover Vauxhall) say this stops the services and removes the car from your account. Also make sure your account is no longer linked to the car.
The website route from Vauxhall's Connect ONE terms.
- Restore the factory settings (Astra)Astra (2026 handbook)
Settings app → System settings → Restore the factory settingsResets the system. Delete each profile from the profile menu too; the guest profile can't be deleted.
- Factory Reset (Frontera)Frontera (2025)
Settings → General Settings → Factory ResetReturns the system to factory defaults. Profiles can be deleted with the bin icon.
Privacy and offline settings
- Privacy settings (Astra)Astra (2026 handbook)
Settings app → Connectivity → Privacy settingsSet each profile to share data and location, share data, or private mode, where Vauxhall says connected services only process data locally in the car. The Guest and Driver profiles are set to private mode by default.
Also from the status bar. Emergency calling isn't affected. On some versions (Astra and Frontera) you can change privacy settings by pressing the breakdown and SOS buttons together in the overhead console.
Good to know
- Vauxhall's UK terms say only one customer at a time can pair a car, and a new owner can subscribe once the previous owner's subscription has ended.
Not found in Vauxhall's public UK documents: Whether MyVauxhall 2.0 has the same ownership-change button. Only the Astra and Frontera handbooks were checked; older Vauxhalls (including OnStar-era cars) aren't covered. Menu paths can differ by model and software version; each one here is for the version its source names.
